Parent-Child Relationships: An Attachment Informed Approach to Assessment and Intervention

Helen is the Director of Attachment Works and has been a qualified social worker since 1999.

Helen is committed to using evidenced based and innovative ways of helping children and parents in both birth and adoptive families and in providing support and training to professionals. Helen is particularly interested in the potential of the Dynamic Maturational Model of Attachment and Adaptation to bring understanding to the behaviour of individuals; relationship dynamics and family functioning so that this, in turn, can inform effective interventions.ere

• Explore how developmental pathways, lead to the various insecure strategies and the characteristics

• Consider how the behaviour of children and adults can be best understood when we focus on the function of
the behaviour rather than the surface appearance of the behaviour. Ask is it Sensory, Affective, or Cognitive.

• Develop an understanding of how attachment is used to organize behaviour across the life course and describe
what this looks like in children and adults.
